Technical commissioning management during conversions of an institute building into a biomedical research center – guaranteeing smooth and secure building operations
The Research Center for Transnational Neuroscience was integrated into an existing institute building at Main University. The 1970s building needed modernization and conversion. After conversion the five floors offered about 4,700 m² of ultra-modern experimental labs and offices for the FTN research groups, whereby the labs for the preclinical institutes and animal tests covered 4,200 m2. Modernization of the existing building took place in two stages. In the first construction phase, the areas for the institutes were completed, in the second the research center. As part of the second construction phase parallel to construction implementation, CANZLER handled commissioning management. To this end, a concept for trial operations was prepared. CANZLER also supported QA and instructions, checked documentation and acted as coordinating interface between those involved in construction and the user. A special feature of this project: the building sections for the SPF animal housing for lab purposes. The rooms destined to be home to animals had to have neutral/constant ambient conditions (temperature, moisture and illumination).
