District administration Mainz-Bingen

The Mainz-Bingen district administration wanted to concentrate its total of almost 1,400 employees in Ingelheim. For this purpose, an innovative administration building in wood hybrid construction was planned as the second location of the district administration. The sustainable overall building concept and the extensive use of ecological, organic and natural materials were consistently planned and implemented. Thanks to the façade landscape of modular prefabricated timber façade elements, the new building presents itself as a new architectural highlight of the district of Mainz-Bingen. The new building was planned as a comb structure with office and administration rooms for more than 300 employees. The four-story volume forms an elongated U in which a two-story pavilion with a main entrance is set in the center. The supporting grid divides the floor plan into a middle and an outer zone. The serving rooms are arranged in the middle zone. The office and meeting rooms are located along the outer facades and are naturally lit through the almost floor-to-ceiling windows. The new building is sustainably heated via cogeneration using a wood pellet system. Heating/cooling ceiling sails ensure a balanced indoor climate in the offices. The project was funded by the Landesbeirat Holz (State Advisory Council for Wood) with the funding priority modular timber construction system.
