EUMETSAT- East Building Extension
General planning for the extension of an office building for the European weather and climate satellite organization EUMETSAT
EUMETSAT is the European organization for monitoring weather, climate and environment from space. From its headquarters in Darmstadt, the organization operates a network of geostationary weather, climate and environmental satellites over Europe, Africa and the Indian Ocean on behalf of its 30 member states. In the course of the further expansion of the organization, an extension of an existing administration building had to be planned.
As general planner, CANZLER provided the object planning and the planning of the TA, as well as the structural and fire protection planning in work phases 1 to 8. The new building connects to the north facade of the East Building, which was completed in 2015 and also planned by CANZLER. Since the building was already designed with an extension, the new construction could be realized without disrupting ongoing operations. Due to the arrangement of the development cores, another new building can be connected to the extension. In the course of the extension, a new central reception area as well as meeting and office rooms were created on the first floor. In addition, the area of the central canteen was enlarged and the scullery was rebuilt. Meeting and office rooms were created on the 1st - 3rd floors and additional technical areas on the staggered floor. Technical and storage areas as well as the shower rooms were also located in the basement. Cooling and heating are provided throughout the building in an energy-efficient manner via ceiling canopies. The new building takes over the design elements of the existing building and continues them, so that a structural unit was created.
