Schulneubau in Holzbybridbauweise
Space optimization of the existing building and expansion with a new building as well as energy-efficient refurbishment including fire protection and pollutant remediation
Increasing numbers of students and changing teaching requirements present the Geschwister-Scholl-Gesamtschule and the Godehard-Grundschule with the challenge of adapting the existing buildings to the new conditions. The project will be realized in six construction phases with a project duration of approximately 10 years.
In the first construction phase, which is expected to last until mid-2026, a new building will be constructed using a timber hybrid construction method that meets the passive house standard, and certification of the building according to DGNB is being sought. Subsequently, the ten existing buildings are to be gradually renovated and converted in accordance with the climate plan and building construction standard of the city of Göttingen, with a focus on energy-efficient refurbishment and space optimization, barrier-free expansion and fire protection.
CANZLER was awarded the contract for the architectural planning for the new construction and renovation in the VgV procedure of the city of Göttingen.
The new building will be Göttingen's first public school building of this size to be built using a hybrid timber construction. The basement will be designed as a reinforced concrete base, while the floors above will be dominated by timber as the main construction material.
The new building presents itself to the outside world with a façade landscape of modern, prefabricated wooden façade elements and generous window areas. Inside, the new school building impresses with the use of ecological, organic and natural materials.
The light-flooded foyer with an airspace up to the roof and the eye-catching wide stairs with integrated seating can be used as a spacious event room, for example for school enrolments, graduation ceremonies, concerts, plays, etc.
The first floor is structured similarly to the ground floor. The event area is replaced by a modern teaching kitchen with adjoining rooms. The service rooms that do not require daylight are located in the central zone. Class rooms, inclusion areas and transparent open learning areas are arranged in the outer zones.
