Office tower Lyoner Straße

Competition, 2nd prize
The filigree towers of Egon Eiermann‘s Olivetti Germany headquarters have shaped the silhouette of the Niederrad office city in Frankfurt since its construction. Within the framework of a competition procedure, a structural solution for another high-rise building was to be found in the direct vicinity. Our design proposed a volume that corresponds in orientation and axiality with the listed ensemble, quoting and reinterpreting the construction principles and materiality respectively. Although the significant, clearly designed structure maintains an appropriate spatial distance from the Olivetti Towers, a dialogue and a common space of tension develops. Two symmetrical, slender building panes with a glass connecting part optically reduce the building mass and create a filigree structured building volume. They are positioned centrally on the main development axis of the site and thus link up with the existing development. The cores of the two high-rise slabs divide development and functional areas. Around the cores, the levels are arranged with flexible office use, as single, double, group or open-plan offices.
