The consulting and planning company CANZLER has been working for another major German airport for over a year now. Within a framework agreement CANZLER manages and coordinates several, partly dependent construction and conversion measures for Hamburg Airport. The aim is to meet increased safety and logistics requirements on the construction sites and to take into account the needs of multifaceted user groups.
Hamburg Airport is the fifth largest airport in Germany with more than 17 million passengers and over 160,000 aircraft movements every year. As space at the airport is limited, the existing buildings have to be adapted both to increasing requirements and to the steadily increasing number of passengers.
At the airport, CANZLER is currently supporting several measures at different stages of the project. These range from a feasibility study for conversion measures to refurbishment work and conversion projects in the terminals. Based on an existing framework agreement, the airport can call up control and planning tasks for such projects at short notice. "The simple commissioning and short reaction times are advantageous for our client, as new measures can be implemented quickly," explains the responsible project manager Eike Riggert from CANZLER office in Hamburg.
CANZLER does not only supervise the individual projects, but also takes over an extended overarching coordination of the individual measures, as these are mostly interdependent. Riggert describes the fact that the projects are all in different phases as both exciting and challenging: "One project is in the planning stage, another in the feasibility study and another in the implementation stage - an overarching view is immensely important here.
Since all work takes place during flight operations, close coordination with all parties involved is necessary. In most areas, not only increased safety requirements have to be observed, but also logistics because of the cramped construction sites. In addition, different users from the retail trade, gastronomy, services, office tenants and the police have many different tasks.
