Lecture 1: AI - video-based fire detection - is it all just hype?

Referent:      Carsten Meißner, Siemens AG

Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly important role in building technology and building security. The potential applications are now also being utilized in fire protection. Some architectural designs, such as spacious atriums or entrance halls with high ceilings, push conventional fire detectors and guidelines to their limits. This is where AI-based video fire detection comes into its own. In harsh environments, such as industrial areas or production halls, environmental influences such as dust, exhaust fumes, heat and humidity make it difficult to reliably detect fires. Here, video fire detection ensures the safety of people and the protection of property through reliable and early detection of smoke and flames at the source. AI-based video fire detection is an innovative solution that can also be integrated into existing fire protection concepts. The presentation provides an insight into how AI-based video fire detection can be used in a wide variety of building types and room environments when conventional fire protection solutions are not effective due to external conditions.

Lecture 2: AI applications in mechanical engineering and a look at predictive maintenance

Referent:      Dr. Hendrik van der Wurp, WILO SE

Artificial intelligence has arrived in the public eye with GPT at the latest. But there is much more to it than just language models. How is the industry using AI? And what benefits can be derived from new generative models such as GPT? The presentation provides an insight into Wilo SE's approach. It shows successes, potentials, but also hurdles. In particular, topics such as: What is AI and what significance does it have for technical equipment. Examples of AI applications. Outlook on predictive AI support, e.g. in maintenance ("predictive maintenance"). Which hurdles are recognized and are considered a risk
