Tasks and Solutions

Conversion of the former ophthalmic clinic into a city history museum and a music school

Kind of Object and Use

Cultural site for the protection of the history of the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr

In the course of reconstruction and affiliation of a new building, the former ophthalmic clinic of Mülheim an der Ruhr will be converted into a city history museum and a music school. The 5,000 m² of the building will be shared by the hitherto city archives, the music school, history orientated associations as well as the administrative department of the Leonhard-Stinnes-Foundation, who is the owner of the property. The building will become another vital node of the cultural dialogue network of Mülheim an der Ruhr.

On the basis of a feasibility study, Canzler developed an efficient supply and disposal concept for manifold utilisation, taking radical structural changes of the building into account.
