Westfalentower Dortmund

Tasks and Solutions

Pre-check according to LEED and DGNB standards. Followed DGNB certification to support marketing and increase property value

Kind of Object and Use

Construction of a three-part high-rise office complex, 33,000 m² GFA

The new three-piece ensemble of the Westfalentower in Dortmund consists of a 22-storey skyscraper, a forum and a U-shaped atrium. These striking buildings form a simulation of a gateway at the city entrance.

On behalf of Credit Suisse, Canzler investigated the possibility of LEED or DGNB certification via Pre-Check. This was done in a workshop with the planners and the general contractor. Documents were prepared by Canzler necessary for the pre-certification for DGNB, including the identification of possible optimisation potential in order to achieve a higher certification level. As part of the pre-certification, Canzler calculated life cycle costs and life cycle assessment for the new building.

The award for DGNB pre-certification achieved the certification level ‘Silver‘ at the Expo Real in autumn 2009.
